Elkana is located in Western Sammaria approximately 30 km. from Tel - Aviv. Its population totals around 3,000 people. The majority of the families are orthodox however there are also secular families who have made Elkana their home.

In the years 1990-92 during which there was massive immigration form the Soviet Union, many families were absorbed in Elkana.
Elkana is a community-orientated settlement with institutions, which encourage its inhabitants to be active socially by volunteering themselves for the good of the community besides their regular occupations.
This is exemplified by the voluntary medical crew comprised of 13 adult paramedics, most of whom served as paramedics in the Israeli Defense Forces and 14 youth volunteers between the ages of 16 - 18.

The medical crew operates an ambulance which is regularly located in Elkana and whose purpose is to provide immediate medical assistance in an emergency situation.
